SUPER SOLID: No-Rust Nicely Sorted 1972 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super

For sale is a beautiful 1972 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1.3 Super. This car runs and drives like new. We have spent a significant amount of time and money brining this car to the level it is at. Recent work completed include:

  • New rear main seal
  • New flywheel ring gear
  • New clutch
  • New radiator
  • New battery
  • New carpet kit
  • New ignition system
  • New tires
  • Complete major tune up

The body has no rust including the typical problem areas (jack points and spare tire). It has been resprayed in the original blu Olanda and is an 8 out of 10. The interior is original. The dash is perfect with no cracks. The seats are splitting a little at some of the seams and the headliner is complete with no rips or tears but does have spots here and there.

The car is currently registered in California and also retains its original Italian Torino (TO) license plates and documents!!!

PICK OF THE DAY: Pampered Mercedes-Benz 250 SE Coupé

There are few cars that evoke the kind of refined establishment as the Mercedes-Benz W111 Heckflosse Coupé and Cabriolet. With its traditional grille, cathedral headlamps and subtle tail fins, combined with the individuality of its two-door body, it’s a car that even today turns heads to see who might be behind the wheel. At the top of the chain are the 280 se 3.5 Cabriolets, with values rocketing nearly 40% within the last year. While the fixed roof coupés aren’t in that sort of investment category—at least not yet—they offer most of the same panache, albeit without the St. Tropez vibe. More importantly, they do it for about 20% of what it would take to get into a 3.5 Cab. This example is a mid-generation 250 SE. The 250 SE, sandwiched between the early 220 SEb and the 280 SE, featured some driver-oriented improvements to it predecessor with a very capable 150-hp motor, four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. As such it would be an ideal entry in a vintage rally, such as this weekend’s Northwest Classic Rally. It is said to have been garaged and pampered, with an extensive amount of reconditioning since 2008. It has had a color change over a rust-free body. It isn’t original, but looks very smart over its handsome Dark Red interior, which seller discloses needs some minor cosmetic flaws addressed. Excellent maintenance on its 78,000-mile drivetrain certainly add to its adeptness as a quality driver’s car. Find it here on Craigslist in Great Falls VA for $33,000.

PICK OF THE DAY: Solid Original Triumph TR6

With the end of the Triumph TR6 in 1976, so too was the beginning of the end for the British roadster. With Karmann styling atop a Michelotti design that began with the TR4 40 years ago, and the last of the affordable six-cylinder roadsters, the TR6 had the longest run of any of the TRs. With nearly 100,000 produced over eight years, it was also the most popular. Its popularity remains today for its classic styling, respectable performance and relative affordability. In other words, all the traits of a true British roadster. While prices have seen an upturn in the last several months and No. 1 cars are fetching over $30,000 at collector car auctions, decent examples can still be found for $10-15K. This TR6 appears to be a solid, rust-free, original car with a very straight body and original interior, though it does show some cracks on the dash pad and possible splitting in the driver’s seat. With only two owners, it’s benefited from long-term care, the current owner being its steward for nearly 30 years. According to seller it’s not far off from mint condition. If that is indeed the case, this would be a sound investment on top of Find it here on Craigslist in Collierville TN for a bargain $8,900.

PICK OF THE DAY: One-Owner Original 83,000 Mile Mercedes-Benz 190SL

As the smaller sibling of the legendary W198 300SL, the Mercedes-Benz 190SL was from a time when ‘Sports’ was still a genuine attribute to the ‘Sports Leicht’ model designation. Future generations, while sporting, leaned toward touring and became increasingly less leicht. Although its 1.9 litre inline four-cylinder put out less than half the horsepower of the 300SL (which was at the time the fastest production car in the world), it had much of the same character. Their resemblance, while not identical, is unmistakable. The W121 190Sl was somewhat heavier and less nimble than its contemporaries like the Porsche 356, Alfa Romeo Giulia, or Jaguar XK, but it was better planted and its fully independent suspension with double wishbones and stabilizer at the front, as well as power-assisted brakes delivered a more confident racy feel. This was further enhanced by the high-quality Mercedes-Benz construction. With 300SL prices soaring past the million-dollar mark, it’s no surprise that 190SL prices have been skyrocketing accordingly. Only a few years ago, it wasn’t unheard of to find a driver-quality 190SL for under $30,000. Today, that likely wouldn’t buy a rough project car. Most collector-quality 121s are into six figures. Today’s example appears to be an exceptionally well-kept one-owner 190SL with relatively low miles. It is said to have had a quality repaint in its original Ivory color at some point in the 90s and some of that is beginning to show some age. Its original interior however shows beautifully, as does the original motor (Webbers being used currently but original Solexes are included in the sale). Undercarriage is spotless. As a lifelong New Mexico and Colorado car, what minor rust there was in the boards has been addressed and the car sits today completely free of rust. Although not heavily optioned, it does include the hard top (~$300 in 1956 dollars), which judging from the condition of the soft top, must have been its primary cover. It is also well-document with its original service book, “instruction” manual and several service records including a recent $9,000 service, ensuring that the car is ready to go for its second owner. PICK OF THE DAY: Nearly There Porsche 914 2.0

The Porsche 914 wasn’t always a collector’s dream. Many saw it as more VW than Porsche and indeed gave the Karmann Ghia more respect. Recently however, as other air-cooled cars are escalating to prices that are no longer appealing to the hobbyist collector, a growing number have cast aside earlier judgment and have actually driven them to find they deserve the Porsche on their own merit. Particularly in the later (1973-76) 2.0 litre form, they are enjoyable in a different sort of way than say a 911 of the same era, but immensely enjoyable nonetheless.

The car presented here appears to check all the boxes of what a good Porsche 914 ought to be. It’s a 2.0 Litre that has enough integrity to be called original, but with enough modifications to harness what these cars are truly about. It is said to be rust-free, which is the first concern in looking at a 914. Its unique Marathon Blue finish appears to be in good shape and, save for a few easily repairable blems, looks to be very straight. It has the preferable chrome bumpers (last seen in 1974) and sits nicely on optional Mahle wheels. Interior also appears to be in good shape with only a couple easy nicks and cracks to sort out. The motor is said to have been professionally rebuilt and bored to 2056 cc (stock is 1971 cc) with the factory fuel injection replaced with dual Webers (commonly done) although the original fuel injection is included in the sale as are a set of larger Webers. On paper, it has all the makings of a car that is a kick in the pants to drive and a smart investment. Find it here on Craigslist in Detroit MI for $8,500.
