Following the long-standing relationship and successful launch of the Px8 McLaren Edition headphones at the end of 2022, the partnership between British brands McLaren Automotive and Bowers & Wilkins continues to thrive with the launch of the new McLaren 750S.
The lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren, the 750S boasts an improved infotainment system, enhances external features, as well as a new Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound audio system. The new V8-engined, rear-wheel drive 750S – which is available in coupe and convertible form – is unashamedly a supercar for the purist.
The key improvement of the Bowers & Wilkins system is the inclusion of the brand’s proprietary Continuum™ Cone. Originally developed by Bowers & Wilkins for its award-winning 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers, as found in Abbey Road Studios, and refined over eight years of intensive development, the revolutionary Continuum™ Cone uses its composite construction to absorb vibrations that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit.
Two 100mm Continuum® midrange speakers are fitted, one in each car door. The result is a more open, neutral performance that reproduces the original recording as faithfully as possible and reveals details in your music that conventional automotive audio systems simply cannot uncover.
Five 25mm Nautilus™ Aluminium Double Dome tweeters can be found in the dashboard, A-pillar and in the rear of the new 750S. Each tweeter features Nautilus™ diffusers: spiralling channels that dissipate reflected sound waves that emanate from the rear of the drive unit to deliver cleaner, more natural-sounding high frequencies.
The high-power system, which has been developed specifically for the 750S by Bowers & Wilkins, also features the premium audio specialist’s trademark central Tweeter-on-Top for incredible sound fidelity. The system is completed by three further midrange speakers and two Rohacell® bass drivers, giving a total of 12 high-performance speakers. The result is sound that’s superbly detailed, with unwanted resonances reduced to a minimum.
Alongside all of this advanced technology, the new Surround Sound System in the 750S benefits from a collaborative design, enabling Bowers & Wilkins’ proven technologies to deliver an automotive audio system that reveals the most authentic reproduction of the original recording possible, a philosophy Bowers & Wilkins refers to as True Sound.
“The long-standing partnership between McLaren and Bowers & Wilkins began with a conversation about how we can work together to enhance the occupant’s audio experience, which we know is fundamental to how our customers experience a McLaren supercar.
“By combining our respective expertise in automotive and audio engineering, together McLaren and Bowers & Wilkins have created a thrilling and immersive audio environment.
“Great care, thought and expertise was dedicated to finding the precise placement and calibration of the new Bowers & Wilkins audio system in the 750S to ensure that the occupants enjoy unparalleled sound quality, adding an additional layer of enjoyment to the McLaren experience.”
