Imagine you are driving on the highway using Ford BlueCruise* set to the 70 mph speed limit, but the semi-truck in front of you is traveling at 55 mph. Now, our latest version of BlueCruise hands-free highway driving software can smoothly and seamlessly initiate a hands-free lane change to pass slower moving traffic and keep you driving hands-free at your preferred speed.

This is possible because of an all-new BlueCruise 1.5 feature, Automatic Lane Change, developed by our Ford Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) team to help make hands-free highway driving even better. It will help you stay engaged longer in hands-free mode than prior versions and keep you moving through traffic. 

For example, BlueCruise 1.5 is designed to facilitate a smooth and natural drive experience, meaning it will try to avoid merging with traffic moving much faster than your vehicle. It can also avoid moving the vehicle into the right-hand lane where off-ramps and inconsistent lane markings are present or merging with traffic that requires you to put your hands back on the wheel. 

This increases the amount of time you can spend driving hands-free without interruption. We found in our internal testing, on an average drive, BlueCruise 1.5 will automate up to 45% of lane changes. 

Here is how it works:

• BlueCruise can perform a single lane change when it detects a clear adjacent lane and there is enough time to perform the maneuver smoothly.
• Before BlueCruise makes an automatic lane change, a visual and audio prompt will alert the driver that a lane change is about to occur. A reason for making the maneuver will also be displayed in the driver’s information display screen in front of the steering wheel, like if the vehicle is changing lanes for slower moving traffic or to move out of a passing lane.
• A hands-free lane change will automatically occur unless you tap the turn signal in the opposite direction of the planned lane change or hold the steering wheel in place.

If you’re not comfortable with Automatic Lane Change, you can disable it in the Driver Assistance settings.  

BlueCruise Software Progress on Mustang Mach-E 
We first introduced BlueCruise hands-free highway driving on the Mustang Mach-E, and since then we have continued to learn, develop, and iterate to create the best possible hands-free highway driving experience for owners. 

After rolling out BlueCruise 1.0 from the factory, we launched BlueCruise 1.2 with new features and then BlueCruise 1.3 with performance improvements around curves and in narrow lanes. Now, we are launching BlueCruise 1.5 on the 2025 Mustang Mach-E. In addition to Automatic Lane Change, 2025 Mustang Mach-E owners will experience improvements to hands-free highway driving time in a variety of conditions delivered on BlueCruise 1.4. 

2025 Mustang Mach-E customers will be among the first to experience BlueCruise 1.5. We will have more to share in the future around which vehicles and model years will receive BlueCruise 1.5. 

Last year in the U.S., about 77% of BlueCruise trips taken were under 20 minutes. And for highway trips longer than one hour, such as road trips, BlueCruise was used more than 50% of the time. The supercharged 5.2-liter V8 improves on previous Mustang engines, benefiting from Mustang’s first-ever dry-sump oil system that can help keep the engine lubricated through sustained and demanding cornering. 

That dry-sump oil system also enables a slightly elevated maximum engine speed of 7,650 rpm, up 100 rpm from the previous 5.2-liter V8 maximum. Revised intake and exhaust, a standard titanium exhaust, and a smaller supercharger pulley help achieve the engine output ratings.

Beyond the power needed to achieve its 202 mph top speed, Mustang GTD also features a Drag Reduction System that can change the angle of the rear wing and activate flaps under the front of the car to find exactly the right balance between airflow for speed and downforce for grip, depending on performance conditions.

From a new Performance pack that enhances its agility to a driver-focused interior to exposed carbon-fiber elements that showcase its cutting-edge construction, the Mustang GTD, in eye-catching Chroma Flame paint, is making a bold statement with its European debut. 

The biggest statement comes from the Mustang GTD’s Performance package. A key component in the quest for a sub-7-minute lap of the fabled Nürburgring Nordschleife, it adds dive planes and a larger splitter to the front fascia, underbody flaps, and a drag reduction system to the rear wing. The active aerodynamic elements reduce drag in a straight line without sacrificing aerodynamic grip while cornering. The Performance pack also includes a Lightweight package, which removes some sound-deadening material and adds stunning 20-inch magnesium wheels, in addition to a unique front fascia. And while the Performance pack is featured on this Carbon Series model, it’s available across the Mustang GTD range.

A driver’s confidence is essential to a car’s performance and Mustang GTD can keep drivers focused and aware on every corner, chicane and straightaway. Standard Recaro seats are up to the task, working in tandem with a new Mustang GTD steering wheel. LeMans marks the first-ever showing of the GTD interior.   

The flat-bottom steering wheel features a thick, well-padded rim with premium Dinamica inserts and a leather wrap, along with carbon-fiber inserts. Exclusive to the Mustang GTD are buttons on the steering wheel for adjusting the suspension firmness and exhaust mode, letting drivers keep their eyes on the road while adjusting how their Mustang GTD performs in corners and sounds when accelerating.

Two new buttons also join the hero panel ahead of the rotary gear selector to access the Track Apps page and activate a front-axle lift function to help avoid parking lot and driveway obstacles.

Drivers also have greater control over how the standard eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle manages the supercharged 5.2-liter V8’s targeted 800-plus-horsepower, thanks to impossible-to-miss 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters. Oversized and featuring a hexagonal pattern that’s both light and gives the driver’s fingers something to grip, it’s yet another example of Ford using motorsports to improve the driving experience. Titanium trimming is also available on the rotary gear selector on the center console.

Motorsports Style That Sacrifices Nothing
Mustang GTD’s new Chroma Flame paint takes center stage at Le Mans. One of six standard colors for Mustang GTD – alongside Polymimetic Gray, Race Red, Shadow Black, Frozen White, and Lightning Blue – it’s exclusive to the Mustang GTD. The deep burgundy shade pairs beautifully with the Carbon Series trim.

Highlighting the carbon-fiber body, the Carbon Series leaves the hood, roof, and rear Tech Deck unpainted, while finishing the wheels (aluminum or magnesium) in Magnetite. Body color or contrasting painted stripes are available, as are Grabber Blue, Race Red, or Black painted brake calipers. 

Mustang GTD elevates Mustang’s cutting-edge software suite. SEALY, Texas (May 21, 2024) – Hennessey, the Texas-based hypercar manufacturer and high-performance vehicle creator, has revealed performance data for its supercharged ‘H850’ Mustang Dark Horse, which is now in production at its Sealy HQ. Hennessey’s engineers have transformed the performance of America’s iconic pony car with a 70 percent power upgrade, achieving 850 horsepower, alongside boosted torque of 650 lb-ft.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is the performance version of the acclaimed ‘S650’ Mustang. The stock Dark Horse has a naturally aspirated Gen-4 Coyote 5.0-liter V8, to which Hennessey adds a high-performance supercharger, high-flow air induction system, upgraded fuel injectors and fuel pump, plus Hennessey’s rigorously developed engine management system.

From the factory, Ford’s Dark Horse has 500 bhp and can hit 60 mph from stationary in 3.7 seconds, in 10-speed auto form. Hennessey’s uprated H850 Mustang hits the same speed in just 3.2 seconds. The standard Dark Horse completes the ¼ mile in 12 seconds at 118.4 mph. Hennessey betters this benchmark too, with the H850 auto achieving the same distance in 10.9 seconds at 133 mph.

DEARBORN (May 14, 2024) – Beginning as an idea tossed around in an engineering breakroom, Mustang Mach-E^® Rally is a testament to what’s possible when you combine intense passion with incredible design and engineering.

“Can we make a rally-inspired version of the Mustang Mach-E?”

That’s the message that greeted product planners Peter Schultz and Craig Migliori on an early morning in 2022. To answer that question, they took a hand-me-down Mach-E GT, added some wheels and off-road tires, and headed up to Ford’s Michigan Proving Grounds to see if it could handle some laps in the dirt.

Their verdict? A resounding yes.

The team knew from the beginning that the Mach-E Rally not only needed an appearance worthy of the nameplate, but also needed some real rallycross-inspired capability.

A 1-inch lift from normal Mustang Mach-E GT suspension height with RallyCross-tuned shocks and springs helps the Mustang Mach-E Rally SUV tackle uneven and rough terrain. Gloss-white 19-inch wheels are wrapped in Michelin^® CrossClimate2 rubber for loose-surface traction and strength, while underbody shielding helps to protect the vehicle from the grime that’s common in this type of driving.

Finally, to highlight its high-performance personality, the team added unique contrasting accents, including upper and lower body moldings, a unique front splitter and unique rear spoiler for aggressive styling, black painted steel roof, and built-in rally-inspired fog lights.

But even after making these modifications, how could they prove the Mach-E Rally could truly handle intense rallycross driving? That’s where Ford off-road attributes engineer, Chris Berchin, and vehicle engineering supervisor, Jay Kistler, come in.

Drive testing, informed by the rallycross experience of the Ford team, included a brand new 500-combined mile torture test at Ford’s Michigan Proving Grounds – designed to put Mustang Mach-E Rally SUV through the equivalent of 10 years of monthly rallycross racing. Rallycross driving entails tight turns through dirt tracks, a great environment for Mustang Mach-E Rally.

“We tested in numerous different weather scenarios and temperatures with conditions ranging from muddy to dry – typical of what rallycross competitors might face. Likewise, the surface is dirt of varying composition, allowing for different traction scenarios.”

Chris’s experience with rallycross racing, combined with Jay’s expertise as the vehicle engineering supervisor, gave the group the necessary tools for quick ideation and success.

And the team was off.

What began as a grassy, unused field at Ford’s Michigan Proving Grounds is now a fully built, rallycross testing course. Before shovels hit the dirt, the team attended rallycross events and interviewed drivers to ensure that the course was a true analog of real rallycross racing environments.

After plotting out the twists and turns, Ford’s engineers completed a full computer-aided engineering (CAE) analysis of the course, mapping elevation, expected speeds, timing, and more. Armed with advanced sensors and measuring equipment, the team used this technology to ensure that not only did the course have the look and feel of a rallycross race, but that the data backed it up.

This in-house development of both the course and vehicle not only helped keep costs and development time down, but hugely aided in the secrecy of the Mustang Mach-E Rally project. Recognizing this success, the team received a Vehicle Engineering Validation award from Ford – an internal award to celebrate such a successful project, designed and realized entirely in-house.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally team was able to modify the existing Mustang Mach-E vehicle for some serious performance on dirt roads. The powertrain calibration, traction control, and MagneRide^® suspension are tuned for dirt-track and rallycross capability. Raised suspension works to help ensure dirt-track and rallycross performance.

These changes, along with some behind-the-scenes engineering, work to create Ford’s RallySport drive mode – an incredible performance profile for the vehicle that unleashes the full Mustang Mach-E Rally SUV capability for dirt roads without compromising on-road behavior.

The RallySport drive mode from Ford is designed for dirt-track driving and allows for added yaw for bigger slides, a linear throttle response for better control, and more aggressive damping for better handling in loose corners.

Mustang Mach-E Rally started as a single question just over two years ago and soon will be in customer hands. And more importantly, on the dirt track.

Graphic delete will also be a standalone item on the Mustang Dark Horse for customers who prefer a more under-the-radar appearance on the most track-capable 5.0-liter Mustang ever*.

The California Special package features eye-catching Rave Blue details. The signature color appears on the nostril intakes, which flank a new horizontal-slat grille complete with low gloss black strakes. The headlights are surrounded by black bezels while Mustang GT California Special-specific graphics in Medium Light Rave Blue and High- and Low-Gloss Black appear on the lower body sides.

The California Special package is available with two 19.0-inch wheel options. The standard Carbonized Gray wheels have a GT/CS pad-printed logo in Rave Blue, while the optional Performance Pack wheel combines a machined face with Rave Blue pockets. The 5.0-liter engine badge on the front fenders and the GT badge at the back add Rave Blue outlines to black centers – like the GT Performance Package, there is a Performance Pack-specific badge. The GT/CS badge in the grille is also finished in Rave Blue.

Blue accents are prominent throughout the California Special package’s interior, where perforated Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather covers the seats. Further elevating its style is dual-color contrast stitching with Raptor Blue and Metal Gray threads that extend to the dash and doors. The same stitching is also available for the steering wheel and center console. A California Special IP badge and GT/CS floor mats round out the interior changes.

The California Special package adds ^$1,995 to the price of a Mustang GT Premium and is available in Coupe and Convertible body styles with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2024 Mustang GT California Special makes its public debut on November 16 at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show. Order banks open today, and customers can build their own Mustang with the California Special package at Ford.com.

Revealed without camouflage for the first time today at IAA Mobility, Munich, following a global first look at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, Mustang Mach-E Rally joins the Mustang Mach-E family and pushes electric vehicles in a different direction – the first-ever rally-inspired EV from Ford takes Mustang freedom and fun onto dirt roads.

Mustang Mach-E Rally ¹ is electric vehicle technology applied to an entirely untapped white space, expanding the Mustang Mach-E family. This machine boasts a tuned version of the Mustang Mach-E GT powertrain, with a two-motor layout targeting at least 880 Nm of torque and 358 kW of power. ^{2, 3} Mustang Mach-E Rally includes a lithium-ion battery with a 91 kWh (usable) capacity.

The vehicle rides on a unique suspension that has been raised 20 millimeters over Mustang Mach‑E GT and is equipped with specially tuned springs, MagneRide^® shocks, ⁴ and 385‑millimetre front brake discs with red-painted Brembo^®-branded calipers. ⁵

Where the rubber meets the dirt road, Mustang Mach-E Rally sports durable, gloss white 19‑inch rally-style alloy wheels​ inspired by the long history of Ford rally vehicles and wearing 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires that provide more sidewall and loose surface grip compared to GT.

Mustang Mach-E Rally has the first-ever RallySport Drive Mode ⁶ from Ford, which is designed for off-road driving and adapts electronic control systems to allow bigger slides, a linear throttle response for better control, and more aggressive damping for better handling in loose corners. As a bonus, drivers will appreciate how this drive mode, combined with the new tires, allows the Mustang Mach-E Rally to perform in snow and other slick on-road conditions.

To test the Mustang Mach-E, Ford developed an all-new rally course at its Michigan Proving Ground. The course was specially designed by rallycross veterans to simulate just what the vehicle might experience in the real world. Engineers and technicians then abused Mustang Mach-E Rally prototypes in 800-kilometre tests simulating rally-cross durability trials to make sure it lived up to their design intent.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally also looks the part by wearing a dramatic rear spoiler that takes inspiration from the Focus^® RS, unique contrasting accents, including upper and lower body mouldings, a unique front splitter, black painted steel roof, distinctive and purposeful front fascia that houses built-in rally-inspired fog lights. Every Mustang Mach-E Rally comes standard with two racing stripes that complement the bold color palette. It can be ordered in Grabber Blue, Shadow Black, Eruption Green, and eye-popping Grabber Yellow with available Star White or new Glacier Gray as extra cost options.

Inside there’s a combination of comfort, functionality, and style that ties in with the iconic white wheels. There are gloss white accents on the dash, the lower spokes of the steering wheel and contrasting stitching on the doors. Drivers will strap into distinctive Ford-designed performance seats that feature gloss white seatbacks, and “Mach-E Rally” debossed into the seating surface.​
